Application profile and choices

USB 3.0 raises the colour OnSemi XGS12000 platform to 28 fps at its full 4096 × 3072 Bayer RG 8 frame. MV-CH120-20UC V4.0 combines 12.6 MP, a 1-inch sensor, 3.2 µm pixels and global exposure in a 29 mm × 29 mm × 30 mm enclosure. Its 68 dB dynamic range and selectable exposure from 52 µs in UltraShort mode to 10 sec in standard mode cover short machine cycles as well as longer stationary acquisitions. Optical attachment is C-mount.

Colour-coded components, print features and assembly conditions can be checked at a workstation where the camera is close to its host. At 28 fps, the global shutter provides repeated, undistorted views of indexed or continuously moving objects. USB 3.0 can provide the specified 5 VDC camera power, giving typical consumption of 3.2 W, while a 9 VDC to 24 VDC input remains available. The isolated input and output on the 6-pin P7 connector support external triggering and event timing.

This is the faster colour member of the OnSemi XGS12000 group. MV-CH120-20GC V4.0 retains colour and 4096 × 3072 but runs at 9.6 fps over Gigabit Ethernet with PoE. MV-CH120-20UM V4.0 matches the 28 fps USB 3.0 architecture and changes the output to mono. MV-CH120-60UC uses a 1.1-inch Stacked BSI sensor and a 4096 × 3000 frame at 30.7 fps, providing a nearby USB option with different sensor geometry.

Selection and applications

28 fps colour inspection beside a host. Global-shutter verification of moving labels. 4096 × 3072 capture through USB 3.0.

Minimum kit: MV-CH120-20UC V4.0, a C-mount lens and a USB 3.0 cable with USB power, or a 9 VDC to 24 VDC supply, form the minimum operating set.

Nearby in the range: MV-CH120-20UM V4.0 — Prefer it when the 28 fps USB 3.0 stream should be mono rather than colour; MV-CH120-20GC V4.0 — Prefer it when Gigabit Ethernet and PoE matter more than the 28 fps rate.

FAQ

What lens format should be paired with MV-CH120-20UC V4.0?

Its lens interface is C-mount and the OnSemi XGS12000 has a 1-inch optical format. The recorded grid is 4096 × 3072 with 3.2 µm pixels, so coverage of that sensor and resolution at that sampling pitch are the relevant lens checks.

Can the USB link supply all power needed by the colour camera?

The camera supports USB power and has typical consumption of 3.2 W at 5 VDC when USB 3.0 provides the supply. A separate 9 VDC to 24 VDC input can also be used as part of the installation.

What changes if the host only exposes a USB 2.0 connection?

The data interface is USB 3.0 and is listed as compatible with USB 2.0. The rated 28 fps value applies at 4096 × 3072 Bayer RG 8; USB 2.0 provides less bandwidth than the native interface.

How short can exposure be for colour capture on moving parts?

UltraShort mode covers 52 µs to 161 µs, and the standard range is 162 µs to 10 sec. Because the sensor has a global shutter, all pixels share the exposure interval rather than sampling a moving part at different times.

How is the USB colour variant positioned against its GigE counterpart?

MV-CH120-20UC V4.0 delivers 28 fps over USB 3.0 in a 29 mm × 29 mm × 30 mm body. MV-CH120-20GC V4.0 provides 9.6 fps over Gigabit Ethernet with PoE and has a 29 mm × 29 mm × 42 mm body.
